Are you confused by all the sunscreen options? With so many brands of sunscreen available in the market, selecting the right one must be difficult. This post may help you to make the proper selection.
What are Sunscreens?
Sunscreens are products combining several ingredients that help prevent the sun's ultraviolet (UV) radiation from reaching the skin. And SPF (Sun Protection Factor) is the measure of a sunscreen's ability to prevent UV from damaging the skin. There are two types of UV radiations UVA and UVB that causes sunburn, damages skin, and can contribute to skin cancer.

What is UVA and UVB?
Ultraviolet (UV) radiation is part of the electromagnetic (light) spectrum that reaches the earth from the sun. It has wavelengths shorter than visible light, making it invisible to the naked eye. Ultraviolet A (UVA) is the longer wave UV ray that causes lasting skin damage, skinage, and can cause skin cancer. Ultraviolet B (UVB) is the shorter wave UV ray that causes sunburns, skin damage, and can cause skin cancer. There’s also a third type of ray, UVC - these are the shortest and strongest, but thankfully they’re absorbed by the ozone layer and don’t typically reach the Earth.

What is SPF?
SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor and shows to what degree a product prevents sunburn. Since sunburn is caused by UVB radiation, SPF rating give no indication of how well a product will protect you from UVA radiation (responsible for skin aging and skin cancer). As sunburn is caused by UVB radiation SPF is only a measure of how much UVB is blocked. For protection against both UVA and UVB rays you will need a 'broad spectrum' product. An SPF indicates the ability of a sun protection product to filter out UVB rays. An SPF of 15 will filter out approximately 93% of UVB rays and an SPF of 30 will filter out around 96%. When choosing an SPF rating, keep in mind that doubling the SPF value doesn't mean you get double the protection. SPF 15 will block the majority of UVB rays, SPF will block more, and anything over SPF 30 doesn't really protect you much more than an SPF 30 product. An SPF of 15-30 is seen as the recommended by most health experts.

 "sunscreen" vs "sunblock"
While many people use "sunscreen" and "sunblock" interchangeably, there's a difference. Sunscreen contains chemicals that absorb UV rays before they damage the skin. Sunblock contains particles that act as a physical wall against UV rays. While sunscreen must be applied 15 minutes prior to sun exposure, sunblock begins working immediately. Dermatologists say experiment with what works best with your skin and plan accordingly.

What is good about the sun?
Talked a lot of disadvantages of sunlight, Don't be afraid there must be some good also. The light from the sun has a strong effect on mood and we know that people feel better when the sun shines. In particular, those suffering from Seasonal Affective Disorder show an improvement in the summer months.

Sunlight also acts on the skin to produce vitamin D, which is essential for good health, (especially for female) in particular to maintain health bones.
How much SPF is best to my skin?
The susceptibility of an individual to skin damage from the sun depends to a great extent on their skin type. Skin typing is simply a basic way to categories the sensitivity of the skin to the sun.
Identifying your skin type will help you to decide on the level of protection necessary during sun exposure - for example, skin type I requires very high protection since the body’s inherent protection is very low and the skin is readily burnt by small amounts of UV rays.
Sunscreens should never be used in order to stay in the sun for longer.
I'm showing some more charts that will help you to decide.

Basically the more lighter your skin tone is the more SPF you need.
So how much SPF you need is solved now selecting the right sun protection according to your skin type is another problem. Hence I can suggest but it completely depends on your skins reaction or you can say trail n error method you have to follow...

For normal to Dry skin- Dry skin suppose to feel tight n flaky especially after washing face and throughout the day and this is because lac of water & natural oil in your skin. So you need more moisture and hydrating ingredients such as Aloe Vera and Glycerin etc. Go for creamy products that hydrates enough or formulas that are loaded with emollients like plant oils and fatty acid.
Sunscreen for Normal to Dry Skin -
  •                        Lotus herbal Safe Sun Sun Block Cream (SPF 20)
  •                        Lacto Calamine Sun Shield (SPF 30) (Dry to normal skin)
  •                        Kaya Daily Moisturizing Sunscreen (SPF 30+)
  •                        The Body Shop Moisture White Shiso UV Protection Cream (SPF 30)
  •                        Avene Very High Protection Cream for dry sensitive skin SPF50+
For normal to Combination skin- You can try almost every type of sunscreens but keep in mind that
find something that won't cause acne. I think lotions are good for you and in winters go for hydrating products.
Sunscreen for Normal to Combination Skin -
  •                         Neutrogena Clear Face Liquid Lotion Sunblock spf30
  •                         Nivea Moisturizing Sun Lotion SPF 50
  •                         Lotus 3 in 1 Matte Lock Daily Sunblock SPF 40

  •                         VLCC Matte Look Sunscreen Lotion SPF 30 with Pineapple Extracts
  •                         Aroma Magic Aloe Vera Sun Screen Gel SPF20
For Normal to Oily skin- Sunscreens that won’t cause breakouts can be hard to find yet using it, is important for all the reasons mentioned above. You want something that doesn’t clog your pores, won’t irritate your skin or cause breakouts. I think Gel base sun protections are best for oily or acne prone skin at least from my own experience. But again it completely depends on the reaction of your skin. Look for lightweight sunscreens (sheer or fluid lotions) that dry down to a matte finish.
Sunscreen for  Normal to Oily/Acne prone Skin -

  • Lotus Herbals Safe Sun 3-in-1 Matte Look Daily Sun Block SPF 40
  • Lotus Herbals Safe Sun Sunscreen Gel SPF-20
  • Nivea for Men Advanced Whitening Dark Spot Reduction Moisturiser SPF 30
  • Kaya Skin Clinic Daily Use Sunscreen with SPF 15
  • LA ROCHE-POSAY Anthelios Mineral Tinted Ultra-Light Sunscreen Fluid SPF 50
  • Lacto Calamine Sun Shield - Oily To Normal Skin - Spf 30
  • Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry Touch Sunblock SPF 50+
I personally like to use a sun protection with SPF 20-30. My skin is sensitive to sunscreens so I use them only when I go outside. I feel burning with high SPF containing products.
I'm using Dermabrite Fortifying Sun Care SPF30 and it is very gentle to my skin.

Let’s come to the point. Basically there are 5 types of body shapes and each type has different sub categories.
The main categories are-
                       1)  Rectangle- Straight up and down shape, no define waist. Because of the straight lines, the rectangle body shape is also called banana or ruler shape or Column body shape. They are also called "Petite" when they are 'short'.
*Neat rectangle or "H" Shape- shoulders and hips are similarly sized with no waist line. This body shapes lack curves (chest, waist, hips and bottom) – which may make them look less feminine.
*Tubular or Candle or lean column shape- Very slim.  Hard to get weight at all.  Narrow shoulders. Small bust, waist and hip measurements. Mostly tubular has small chest and bottom with a little definition at waistline and sometime short. And candles are tall with same features. Most of the models have this shape.
*Cello body- When a rectangle gains weight it is called cello body. They have large bust, heavy bottom, heavier thighs and hips with broad shoulders.
*Brick body- A masculine body type, with flat butts, broad shoulders, short & straight legs and undefined waist.
                 2) Pear Body- The hip measurement is greater than the bust measurement, full bust line with narrow shoulder and the legs are short. The thighs are full and with a full bottom. As body fat percentage increases, an increasing proportion of body fat is distributed around the waist and upper abdomen. Pear body shape is also known as spoon, bell, “Christmas tree”,"A" shape or triangle shape body.

* Vase Shape- This body shape is almost like pear shape. Differences are-Narrow shoulders, small bust, slim waist, mostly slim arms, Feminine curvy hips, at least 10cm wider than waist.

                      3) Inverted triangle or Cone Shape- With your wide shoulder your silhouette is also known as Inverted triangle or cone or champagne flute shape or strawberry or "V" shaped body. It's the most athletic-looking silhouette among the 5 body shapes and can be seen on many catwalk models, such as Cindy  Crawford and Gemma Ward & more. This shape gains weight fast in the upper body part and arm.
Strawberry Shape

*Lollipop body shape: This shape has narrow shoulders, big bust, short waist and skinny legs.
                        4) Hourglass shape- This is the real beauty since 18's especially for their CURVES. The hip and bust are almost of equal size with a narrow waist. This body gains weight on hips, legs and bust. It's also called Xshape or 8 shape body.

*Neat Hourglass-  Shoulders and hips in line. A defined bust. A waist, even with a softy curved tummy and a curved bottom.

*Full Hourglass-  Bigger thighs, a rounded bottom and hips. Small waist with a full bust.
Both have a waist line, which is 8” to 12” smaller than bust & hip line.

5)Apple and Diamond shape- They both have undefined waist and fullness around the middle. Both gain weight first in belly area having the famous "love handles".

*Apple- Apples have a rounder shoulder line and flattish bottom with big bust and good legs. Bust, waist and hips have almost the same girt. They are not very large & their stomach is lower.
Also known as "round", "O" shape, "wineglass" shape, Goblet shaped body.
*Diamond- A diamond body has broader hips and belly than their bust and shoulder. They have proportionately slender, shapely arms. Also called "oval Shape", "Skittle body".
It is not up to you  that you can change your basic structure so just love your body and try to maintain your BMI (kg/m2 ) at 19 to 23. Stay Healthy.
                                                                                         XOXO Tee...
SWAYING PALM TREE POSE (Tiryaka Tadasana)
Streamlines the waist and develops balance. Stand with feet 8 inch apart and fix eyes on a point directly in front of you. Interlock fingers and turn palms outward. Inhale deeply as you raise arms over your head. As you breathe out, bend from your waist to your left side, taking care not to reach forwards or backwards. Hold for a few seconds, then inhale deeply and slowly return to the upright position.

Repeat 5 times to each side.

CAT-STRETCH POSE (Marjari-asana)
Kneel and lean forward to place hands on floor below your shoulders, fingers facing forward, hands in line with knees. Arms and thighs should be at right angles to the floor; knees may be slightly separated.

Inhale deeply, raise head and drop spine so your back is concave. Fill your lungs and hold for three seconds. As you exhale, lower your head and stretch your spine upwards. At the end of the breath, pull in your buttocks, contract stomach muscles and place head between arms.  Repeat 5 times.

POSE OF THE MOON (Shashankasa)
Sit on your knees with palms on thighs. Close eyes and relax, but keep spine and head straight.

Inhale deeply and lift arms above head, keeping them straight and shoulder-width apart. As you breathe out, bend forward from the hips, keeping arms and head in a straight line. Hands and forehead should eventually rest on the floor in front of your knees. Bend your elbows, so that arms are fully relaxed and hold for five seconds.

Then breathe in and slowly raise arms and body back to the upright position.

Exhale and return your palms to the top of your thighs. Repeat 3-5 times.

MOUNTAIN POSE (Parvatasana)
Strengthens nerves and muscles in the arms and legs, and stimulates the circulation in the upper spine.

Kneel on raised heels and stretch your arms forward so your forehead is on the floor. Breathe deeply and relax for a few seconds. Raise yourself on to your hands and knees, keeping your toes tucked under and your back flat.

Inhale and push up onto your toes. Raise your buttocks and lower your head between your arms. Your back and legs should form two sides of a triangle.

Exhale, rest your feet on the floor and try to touch the floor with the top of your head. Hold the position for 10 seconds.
 Basic Sitting Postures with Benefits

JANU SIRSASANA: Correct foot placement

Sit up straight with legs evenly extended in front. Bend the right leg at the knee and place the foot so that the heel is in the right groin and the front of the foot touches the left thigh. Turn the foot so that the bottom of the foot is facing upward and press the knee back to form an obtuse angle with the body. This position will be difficult at first; don't force it. Put a folded blanket under the knee and also under the hips. Gradually the knee will move farther back. Just keep the foot correctly positioned.

JANU SIRSASANA: Correct, perfect posture

Having positioned the foot and knee correctly, stretch the left leg out, keeping the leg firmly on the mat. Settle the heel firmly and stretch the toes up. (The heel should pull gently away from the ankle.) Now inhale and bend forward over the straight leg, catching the foot with both hands if possible. Beginners should bend only as far as they can without rounding the back. When this posture is done correctly and completely, the body will roll forward over the extended leg, absolutely flat from the tail bone to the head. Stay there breathing normally for as long as you can. Inhale, release the handhold, come up smoothly, straighten the bent leg and relax. Repeat on other side.

JANU SIRSASANA: Wrong posture

The heel is not positioned against its own thigh. The knee has not been pushed back as far as possible to form an obtuse angle. The back is humped and curved because the pelvis is jammed and unable to lift properly. Instead of a smooth, complete stretching of the spine, the lumbar is over-stretched and the rest of the spine constricted. The left leg is not flat on the floor.

TRIANG MUKHAIPADA PASCHIMOTTANASANA: Sitting, forward-bending pose over one leg

This posture generally follows the previous one. Sit with your legs stretched in front. Bend the right leg so that the right foot is near the right hip. The toes should point back. The right calf presses against the right thigh. The body will tilt in this position so put a small folded towel under the left buttock to keep the hips level and the forward stretch even and extended. Hold the left foot with both hands, inhale and bend forward, keeping both knees together as you stretch forward over the straight leg. Many students will find it difficult in this position to even take hold of the foot of the outstretched leg. Do not despair. Just hold the knee, shin or ankle, and sit, breathing deeply, in whichever position represents your best extension. If the back is tight and the spine inflexible, this will take time. Release the hold and straighten the bent leg. Repeat on the other side.
